Designed with young listeners in mind, the centerpiece of every children’s concert is a musical story with narration.

Jewel Winds has delighted numerous listeners of all ages at schools, libraries and centers in our region.

Children’s Programs*

For PreK-6:

LUPIN, THE POT-BELLIED PIG Keith Amos' enchanting musical tale of Lupin the pig, who lives a quiet and uncomplicated life on the island of Sark, is a favorite with younger listeners and their families.   

FABULOUS FABLES...AND AMAZING ANIMALS!  Featuring Rebecca Oswald’s “Aesop’s Fables” for quintet and narrator, this concert also includes additional music depicting our furry and feathered friends.

THE BASSOONIST OF HAMELIN  The story is an entertaining twist on the classic “Pied Piper.” Other selections on the concert bring to the fore our outstanding double reeds, including the oboe, English horn and bassoon.

THE STORY OF THE WOODWIND FAMILY (a musical story for woodwind quintet) This delightful work gives young listeners a glimpse into the personalities of the five instruments of the quintet.

For 7-12:

THE MODERN QUINTET   Showcasing Anthony Plog’s piece, “Animal Ditties” for woodwind quintet, this program also links poetry with music and takes a look at modern composers, such as Henry Cowell, Bill Douglas and Malcolm Arnold.  

THE TWILIGHT CRANE   The Japanese story of the crane is re-told in this enchanting tale. Other pieces on the concert take us on a whirlwind trip around the globe.
